About this service
Electro-myo-stimulation (EMS) is recommended for anyone wanting an effective, relatively fast, and risk-free workout. The Xbody EMS suit was developed in the early 2000's by a team of physiotherapists specialized in high-level athletic training. The technology uses electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contractions that closely resemble the muscles' natural movements. The frequency and depth of the impulses used in the session have been studied to target specific muscle fibers, while prioritizing the client's comfort and allowing adjustments for each person's physiology and fitness level.
The goal is to make all the muscles of the body work by recruiting the maximum number of fibers. This burns a lot of calories in a very short time while also boosting the hormonal system and muscle anabolism. During voluntary contractions in a high-level athlete, a maximum of 70% of muscle fibers are recruited, but with EMS it is common to recruit 100% of the muscle fibers. In addition, according to studies, the "after burn effect" (i.e., continuing to burn calories after a workout) can last 48-72 hours.
What is a session like?
Inside the suit, large electrodes connected to a console send electricity to 11-13 independent muscle groups. The amount of power being sent to these zones are controlled via a tablet controlled by a trainer so that the intensity of each zone is comfortable for the client. In the first session, the objective is to introduce the client to the sensations, which feel like a tingling sensation in the beginning and develop throughout the session, leading to fuller muscle contractions by the end.
All the basic musculature is engaged: quads, abs, lumbar and dorsal muscles, pecs, arms, glutes, traps, adductors, and deltoids. Your provider will walk you through the movement and intensity options during the session and provide constant supervision to ensure that you are comfortable in the suit.
The session always ends with a cool down to lower the heart rate, circulate the blood, eliminate the maximum amount of metabolic waste, promote recovery, reduce soreness, and burn fat.
Preparing for the Service
As with all of our services, we recommend drinking plenty of water both before and after the session, especially since we often forget to drink adequate amounts of high-quality water.
Sessions will be limited to 30 minutes to avoid overwork.
Sessions must be a minimum of 72 hours apart to avoid over work.
Any person between 14 and 18 must have parental consent.
Avoid any alcohol consumption within 48 hours prior to the session.
Please mention to your coach if you haven't eaten under the 4 hours prior to the session.
